NWT SQUASH RACQUET ASSOCIATION:

  • is a non-profit Sport Governing Body which is operated by an elected volunteer Board of Directors;

  • funding is obtained from Sport North, sponsorships and fundraising programs;  

  • sanctions tournaments for competitive play;

  • offers programs for recreational players.

  • eligible to play in all NWTSRA sanctioned tournaments;

  • inclusion in NWTSRA ranking system;

  • eligible to be considered for selection to NWTSRA teams.

Mission:

To develop and expand the participation of athletes of all ages in the game of Squash by organizing a diverse selection of programs, and activities to suit current and potential members.  

Vision:

To expand the game of squash in as many northern communities as possible and to make squash available to any youth who wishes to participate.

Objective:

  • To assist in the improvement in squash play with particular emphasis on programs related to junior squash development.

  • To select and assist players to participate in squash racquets competition.

  • To supervise, promote and sanction the holding of tournaments and events in the game of squash racquets in the NWT.

  • To develop and train coaches.

  • To develop and train officials.

  • To promote and recognizes sportsmanship and fair play.

NWTSRA Activities

Funding

The NWTSRA is mainly funded by monies received from Sport North.  This funding is utilized annually to support administration and sanctioned activities, primarily development of players, officials and coaches.

Other funding is obtained from sponsorships in support mainly of competitions and travel.

2007/2008 Events

Current year planned events include:-

  • Player development in Yellowknife, Inuvik and Fort Smith

  • Juniors competing in Alberta Jesters Tournament

  • Senior and Juniors competing in Nationals

  • acquisition of coaching resources

  • development of Canada Winter Games High Performance players

  • various tournaments in the Northwest Territories culminating in Territorial Championships at The Racquet Club during May/June 2008
